Donny Mac has been studying and practicing the meditative arts since he was a kid. In early adulthood he explored mainly the Buddhist traditions of meditation, especially that of Zen & Theravada.
In 2009 he discovered Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and embarked on the journey of traditional yoga.
He trained in the ashtanga vinyasa style for 7 years and eventually completed his first teacher training with Gregor Maehle and Monica Gauci in 2013.
He has studied through the Traditional Yoga Studies School of the late yoga scholar Georg Feuerstein and his wife Brenda Feuerstein.
Thanks to Gregor’s teaching he was able to detach himself from the time-intensive attainment of asana and develop a more complete and holistic practice over the last few years paying special attention to the daily incorporation of kriya, pranayama and meditation into his practice.
Donny is founder of Freedive Taiwan, Taiwan’s first dedicated international freediving education centre located on Xiao LiuQiu island.
Freedive Taiwan is also home to Thrive Space Yoga School, this yoga education initiative intended to bring deeper levels of instruction to yoga students and move beyond the superficial yoga classes involving only asana.
He is the founder and host of The Freedive Cafe Podcast, the world’s biggest source of freediving education content, and founder and host of Thrivers Podcast, in which he interviews inspiring persons from around the world.
You can get a good idea about Donny’s approach to yoga and what you will learn in the classes and courses from this podcast interview he recorded with his teacher Gregor from Thrivers Podcast.
He lives at the school in beautiful southern Taiwan, on Xiao LiuQiu island.
